UV stands for Ultra Violet and relates to the three main rays that come from the sun. UVA, UVB and UVC are different rays present in sunlight. While UVC rays don’t make it through the earth’s surface, UVA and UVB rays do. UVA rays have a long wavelength and penetrate the skin more deeply, these rays are able to pass through glass and clouds, and are responsible for tanning! UVB rays only hit the skin’s surface - the epidermis (which explains the sunburn) and are a main contributor to the development of skin cancer.
